Dr. Gražina Bogdanskienė – Pioneer of Assisted Reproduction in Lithuania
Over 30 years ago, fertility treatments were nearly unavailable in Lithuania. Couples often had to travel abroad, as local medicine lacked both knowledge and technology. Seeing this need, Dr. Gražina Bogdanskienė studied Western practices and brought the latest assisted reproduction techniques to Lithuania.
In 1993, she introduced the first assisted reproduction procedures in Lithuania. Early IVF cycles were performed in collaboration with London clinics, with patients prepared in Lithuania and flown to the UK for ovulation. This program led to the birth of Lithuania’s first IVF twins, Miglė and Agnė, on January 9, 1994—a historic milestone.
