IUI is a fertility treatment in which specially prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus. This helps sperm reach the fallopian tubes faster and more effectively, increasing the chances of fertilization.

Who may benefit from IUI:

  • Couples with mild to moderate male infertility
  • Cases of unexplained infertility
  • Women with healthy uterine and fallopian tube function

How it works:
Medications may be prescribed to stimulate the development of 1–2 follicles in the ovaries. Follicle growth is monitored via ultrasound, and when ready, ovulation is timed. Sperm is then prepared, concentrated, and inserted into the uterus using a thin catheter. The procedure is quick, painless, and performed on an outpatient basis.

Benefits:

  • Less invasive than IVF
  • Simple and quick procedure
  • Can be combined with fertility-stimulating treatments
  • Increases the chance of sperm reaching the egg

After the procedure:
Patients are advised to rest for a few days and avoid strenuous activity. A pregnancy test is performed 12–14 days later. If positive, follow-up with your doctor is recommended.
