Progesterone - a hormone secreted by the corpus luteum after ovulation. Progesterone is meant to prepare the uterus for pregnancy. If pregnancy occurs, progesterone production is eventually provided by the placenta. If pregnancy doesn’t occur, the corpus luteum disintegrates within 12 to 16 days and stops producing progesterone, which then leads to menstruation.
Prolactin - a hormone that is secreted by the pituitary gland in both men and women. Prolactin is mainly responsible for triggering the production of breast milk in women. High levels of prolactin, also known as hyperprolactinemia, may inhibit ovulation in women and lead to erectile dysfunction in men.
